This study was carried out at Sowairy Experimental Farm of Seiyun Agricultural Research Station to evaluate 32 land races and varieties of eggplant crop. These were collected from different locations of Wadi Hadramout during Jan.-April 2003. Seedlings of different lines and genotypes were transplanted in rows (2 rows each) in Oct. 2003. Data on morphological, phenological and production characters were recorded and analyzed. Results showed that eggplant germplasm in Hadramout could be classified into seven distinct groups in relation to their fruit colors and forms, in which 25% of the entries were egg-shaped and black in color, 21.9% were cylindrical-form and greenish-violet in color, 12.5% were egg-shaped and violet in color, 9.4% were longed-form and black in color, 3.1% were triangle form-wide base and greenish-violet in color and 3.1% were semi-round and green in color. The rest of evaluated genotypes (25%) were mixed of all forms and colors. Results also showed variation in some other characters and suggested the need to preserve their seed at the gene bank of GRU of AREA HQ for further studies and utilization.
