Estimating the Demand Systems on Poultry Meats in The Republic of Yemen

Poultry meat is considered one of the most important commodities that for the Yemeni nutrition trend. Despite the increase in the consumption needs of these meats, yet the per capita share is below the minimum level when compared with the standard international rate, which represented the axis of the study problem. The research aimed at identifying the development of production and consumption of poultry meats, determining and measuring the most significant factors that influence the per capita share. It also aimed at identifying the quantity of such meats available for consumption, analyzing the gap, self-sufficiency and prospective projections by using descriptive and quantitative measurement on the basis of secondary data. The most important result is represented by the fact that during the period 1991 – 2006, the per capita share tended, in general, towards increasing statistically at a modest rate of 6.8% rate over the general average of 6.4 kilograms; that about 91% of the changes in the per capita share is attributed to the change in the income of individual and prices of white and red meats and fish, as per the bi-logarithmic form.
