Summary

The experiment was conducted during the period (20th October 2008 until 1st January 2009), aiming to determine the dry matter and nutritive value of using this kind of cactus for feeding animals within a concentrate composition after milling for breaking spins; drying, and mixing with other feeds in specific ratio. Nine hundreds thirty kg of fresh green matter of the plant were collected from the Dawmar village, Al Salafia District, Raimah Province. Collected quantity was milled and dried for a month time under the sun rays with daily turnover and weighted (109 kg). The ratio of the dry matter to moisture was 1:9%. The spins formed 10:15% in the dried cactus. Fresh green matter was analyzed in the laboratory. Results indicated that the percentages of crud protein and phosphorous were 4.3% and 0.105% respectively, while that of calcium and ash reached 4% and 12%. The dry matter of cactus was mixed with other feed materials to form a concentrate. The concentrates contained 40% cactus, 25% bran, 25% wheat, 2% urea and 8% chloride sodium. Mixture of concentrate was excellent eaten by sheep, with no observed diarrhea or any other problems.
