Summary

The study was conducted at Bani Hoshaish area, Sanna”a governorate. A number of 150 grape farmers were randomly selected during the production season of 2013. The study aimed to determine the cost of production of grape at two treatments; using pesticides and dusting with soil dust, determine the impact of age of grapevines on production and the factors affecting farmers on using pesticides and dusting. Results showed that dusting grapevines with soil dust to control Powdery Mildew disease (Uncinula necator) was the most effective treatment depending on quantity and quality of grape production and net product compared to the other treatments. The results also showed that dusting grapevines with soil dust to control Powdery Mildew was highly significant (at 1%) in grape production, followed by the treatment of using both dusting and using pesticides. Age of grape tree had a significant effect at the level of 1%, and the optimal age of tree production was estimated at 33 years. Results also showed that the significant effective factors on farmers behavior in using pesticides and dusting were costs of soil dust and pesticides, age of grapevines (year), level of farmers education, number of vines per hectare, area cultivated with grapes, family size, the intensity of insects and plant diseases, whereas the year of experience in grape cultivation showed negative affect. In the other hand, farmers experience in insects and plant diseases control was not significant. The study recommended to use safe materials to control grape pests.
