CROP BUDGET ANALYSIS OF RAINFED SYSTEM OF AL-HADA DISTRICT DHAMAR GOVERNARATE - YEMEN

Summary

This study was implemented in Al-hada district, which is located in the Northeastern of Dhamar town in the central highlands of Yemen. The field survey was carried out during July 1997. Al-hada district is considered as a rainfed cultivated area. The field survey aimed to collect data and information that are related to the socio-economic characteristics of the households families, and to determine the traditional farming practices and main constraints and problems that are facing rainfed farmers. The crop budget analysis have been done as well in order to estimate the inputs and outputs of rainfed crops. The yields of the crops in the study area were estimated by interviewed farmers using local measurements. Therefore, yield of cereals; sorghum, wheat, barley and lentil, is estimated nearly at 2000kg/ha, 1500kg/ha, 2000kg/ha and 1200 kg/ha respectively. The opportunity cost of working time spent by family labor participated in different farming activities was calculated and involved to the total variable cost. The rate of net return of each crop; sorghum, wheat, barley and Lentil was calculated at the rat of: (-9.7%), 2%, 31.3% and 78.2% respectively.
