EVALUATION OF LOCALIZED IRRIGATION EFFICIENCY IN SELECTED FARMS

Khader Balem Atroosh, Mohamed Ali Al-Moaed
Summary

This study on “localized irrigation efficiency” was carried out in six farms during 2000/2002 at the Southern Coastal Region and the Central Highlands Region. It covered measurements and analysis of several parameters such as: discharge, calculation of uniformity coefficient of water distribution, moisture content of the soil before and after each irrigation, which were essential for calculating efficiency of water application in the field. Results of the study clearly demonstrated low level of water distribution uniformity coefficient in most farms. The level of coefficient was less than 50% in one farm, less than 75% in two farms and more than 75% in three farms. The overall irrigation efficiency was less than 50% in three farms, less than 75% in two farms and 82% in one farm. Several reasons were suggested for these variations among which, bad designs, and low level of operation and maintenance of the localized irrigation technique in the study area.
