Mohamed Moslih Alsanabani
Summary

Evaluating the traditional irrigation is essential for improving water use and decreasing demand for irrigation water. Objectives of the study were: 1) evaluating traditional irrigation practices and identifying aspects contributing to water losses; and 2) estimating water losses in field distribution canals (FDC) in farmers fields. Data collection was carried out at different intervals of 1998 throughout 2000, when two groups of farmers had a chance of growing vegetable crops in a farm belonging to Sana’a University. The field work included measurement of basins and FDC dimensions, discharge into fields and out of FDC into basins, advance and inflow time in each basin. Meanwhile, estimating losses was based on inflow-outflow method and uniform flow models.....
