EARLINESS AND HIGH YIELDING TRAITS OF NEW LENTIL STRAIN

Abdu-llah A. Sailan, Mohammed Maray, Mohammed Makbul
Summary

The pedigree method was used to introduce both earliness and high yielding traits into a new lentil strain. Earliness was found in the local variety while the high yielding trait was found in the introduced variety “Flip84-14l”. The crossing and selection process resulted in the identification of one strain, namely “AS-7”. “AS-7” strain was superior to the local variety in number of pods/plant, number of seeds/plant, weight of 1000 seeds, number of days to 50% flowering and number of days to maturity. “AS-7” was superior to the local variety in most of the above traits under research station farm and under farmer conditions.
