Summary

This investigation was carried out in the Farm of EL-Kod Agricultural Researches Station, Abyan Governorate. The experiment had twelve treatments; four levels of nitrogen fertilizer ( urea 46%N) and three concentrations of gibberellin (GA3) with Tween-20 added as a surfactant to all spray solutions of various treatments. The study aimed to investigate effect of nitrogen fertilizer and gibberellin spray on growth, fruiting and fruit quality of papaya ( Carica papaya L.) cv. Honey Dew. Transplants of two-month old were planted in the nitrogen-poor soil. The randomized complete blocks design was used with three replicates in experimental units. Nitrogen fertilizer ( urea) was added, and gibberellin was sprayed on specific times. Data were statistically analyzed by variance analysis method to compare between means of the different treatments. Results indicate that treatment of 200gm N/plant and spray GA3 at 200ppm significantly surpassed other treatments. It gave the highest values of vegetative growth, fruiting aspects and best fruit physical and chemical characteristics in both seasons. Rate of 150gm N/plant significantly surpassed other treatments, giving highest fruit weight.
