Summary

An experiment was conducted at poultry farm of Agricultural and Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Ibb University, to study the effect of intermittent night lighting on some qualitative traits of table egg chickens as egg weight, yolk weight, white weight, shell weight and shell thickness. 488egg layers were used at 38 weeks of age for four-weeks period. The chickens were divided to 4 groups as treatments in four open houses and were put under different light regimes. Other factors were fixed such as feed consumption. Amount of feed offered was 100 -110 Gms/hen/day. Results show that the second treatment was better than the other three treatments for all traits except for shell thickness. The fourth treatment was better than the other three treatments for shell thickness trait, although the difference between its mean and the second treatment mean was so little (0.01gm).
