The study was carried out during the period 2000-2001 in the Central Highlands Agricultural Research station to study competition between sorghum and cowpea for Environment elements through 7 inter-cropping systems (Sole sorghum, sole cowpea, Mix, 2 row x 2 row, 2 row x 1 row, 1 row x 2 row and 1 row x 1 row) using the sorghum "tagarep" variety and cowpea local variety with 7.5 and 8.5 kg/ha seed quantity respectively. Results showed that no significant differences exist between inter-cropping systems for number of days from sowing to harvesting of sorghum and cowpea. But, inter-cropping systems have shown significant differences in grain and fodder yield in mix farming. Highest benefit from grain yield (71%) was obtained in mix farming as compared to sole farming. Total economic benefit was highest (342,650 YR/h) in mix farming system as compared to 200900 YR/h in inter-cropping system 1 row x 1 row.
