TERMITE CHEMICAL CONTROL ON MAIZE UNDER TIHAMA CONDITIONS, AL- HODIEDAH GOVERNORATE

Summary

Termite is considered one of the most dangerous insect that affect maize crop in Tihama mainly during crop milk stage and cause lowering yield. Therefore, this study of Termite chemical control on maize have been conducted during 1997/1998 - 1998/1999 using fipronil-200sc and Gaucho with different dosage and application methods. Results showed that seed treatment with 3 ml fipronil 200sc per each + 15 ml food oil (Al-shorok) as compared to spraying soil surface method, ratio of plant damage by termite have been reduced, under farmers’ fields conditions, up to 6.4%. At the same time, yield have been increased with a return of 53,300 YRial/ha in comparison to return realized by the control treatment (23,600 YRial/ha).
