Summary

To evaluate the yield and agronomical characters of local Wheat mutants for the local variety (Arabi - 1) under rainfed condition, a field experiment was conducted at Al-erra research Farm in Sana'a during 2004 season and on farmers fields during 2005 and 2006 seasons in three areas (Khulan Attar "Hajjah Province", Shibam "AI-Mahwit Province" and Bani Mater "Sana'a Province") in addition to untreated seeds as a check. Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used with four replications. Results indicated that the mutants MA-2-1. MA-2-8 and MA-2-9 gave more yield (2196 , 2197 and 2131 kg/ha) and differed significantly with the others and the check treatment which gave 1841 kg/ha. These mutants were resistant to lodging, recorded more ear length and nuntber of grains per ear. Accordingly, It is recommended to conduct further studies concerning crop management for these three mutants in order to release them in testing regions and as well as in other similar areas.
