The study was conducted in the Jabal Al-Hass area, southeast of Aleppo city and 15 km from the city center located in northwestern Syria, the area suffers from drought and severe poverty in water resources. So, the problem of the study lies in answering questions related to the role of natural characteristics in the area and their suitability for the use of water harvesting techniques. The study aims to identify the geological characteristics of the area, topography, climate elements, land uses and their suitability for the use of harvesting techniques. The study was conducted based on the digital elevation model DEM with a spatial resolution of 30 m and the geological map of Syria at a scale of 1/1000000 and the current land use plan for Aleppo Governorate, and climate data for a number of stations in the study area, where databases were prepared (maps, tables, charts using ArcMap 10.8 and Excel programs). The results showed the presence of geological formations indicating the presence of solid layers whose characteristics are reflected in the hydrological network, and a variation in elevations that contributes to the formation of many torrent valleys in addition to a variation in the severity of slopes. The decrease in temperature increases the actual value of rainfall, and the spread of large areas of rainfed agriculture, rocky lands and pastures in the region, which is suitable for the use of water harvesting techniques in the Jabal Al-Hass region.
