Economics of Banana Production in Tihama Plain

Summary

This study was Conducted during the 2001/2002 Season with the aim of formulating a database on cost average of production and cultivation of banana in the Yemeni Tihama region and the Productivity average and net return per hectare at the farmers level. The obtained results of the study have shown that cost average of cultivation and production of banana crop among respondent- farmers sample reached 38,320 YR/ha. Results have also shown that the net return per hectare reached 776,450 YR/ha. Study results indicated that the Productivity average Per hectare reached 63,369 Kg/ha under the tube-well irrigation system. Under the vally flood irrigation system, cost average of cultivation and production of banana reached 503,353YR/ha, while the net return amounted to 986,922 YR/ha. It was also found that the production average per hectare has come to 69,315 Kg/ha. Index of the total return to the total cost was estimated at 2:1 under both the irrigation systems of banana farming.
