INFORMATION DISSEMINATION BEHAVIOR llDBJ OF RESWCH AND EXTENSION PERSONNEL: CHANNELS USED AND INFLUENCING FACTORS 1

Summary

The study investigated the information dissemination behavior (IDB) of resea rch and extension personnel in Yemen in the context of the resea rch-extension linkage mechanisms. It focused on use extent of va rious linkages and other information channels used by respondents for information dissemination activities. Using the stratified sampling proced ure, 189 were randomly selected from among nea rly 700 research and extension specialists (the study population) . Respondents work for regional resea rch and extension agencies operating in 6 Governorates. Field data were collected using questionnai re method. Results indicate that respondents used a number of formal and informal linkages and other channels in their information dissemi nation activities such as monthly workshops, R-E Newsletter, On-farm trials, field days, training, reports, qat sessions among -others. There exists a difference among members of study sub-sam ples in terms of linkages and channels used and use extent as well. However, the use average was generally low. The study identified a number of varia bles that exhibited a positive and significa nt correlations with dependent varia ble (IDP) some of which have manifested positive and significant contribution towa rds respondent' s IDB such as the variables "role awareness", and "knowledge of communication methods and techniq ues".
