Summary

Field trials were conducted at the Central Highlands Research Station Experimental Farm during the 1999 and 2000 growing seasons, and at different sites in Qa’a Jahran district (Dhamar Province) and Dhi-Na’em district (Al-Baidha Province). The study aimed to investigate the effect of organic amendments (town refuse compost, restaurant leftover, fertiplus and sheep manure) on potato yield, economical return and on some soil properties. Both total and marketable yield increased with organic amendments applications. The highest marketable mean yield of the experimental farm and on farm Sites (40.0 t/ha) was obtained with the (15 t/ha sheep manure + NPK) treatment. This treatment also gave the greatest economic return at the experimental farm and on farm in Qa’a jahran and Dhi-Na’em during the 2nd season. Data also showed a significant increase in both soil organic matter percentage and available soil–phosphorus, although this varied with the organic amendment type.
