The study was conducted in the experimental farm of the Livestock Improvement Research Centre, Lahj, for two years on the Ahwari sheep, which is characterized with thick tail; white colour inclined to yellow, without horns and with the face, bottom of abdomen and front and back legs are free from wool. Fourty sheep were used for productive cycle to obtain three calvings in two years with each productive cycle having passed on a pregnancy period for five months, a sucking period for two months and a dry period for one month. The age of ewes at the insemination time was nearly three years with mean weight ranging from 19.5 - 20.1 kgs. Results indicated that Ahwari sheep has manifested very good fertility (76.9-90%) and a good productive tendency (119.4 - 140%). The mean weight of lambs (male and female) at birth time ranged from 1.2 - 2.1 kgs; at weaning time (age of tow months) 5.7 - 6.9 kgs, at age of three months 7.5 - 9.1 kgs and at six months 13.3 - 15.5 kgs. The milk production per head per day fluctuated between 275.5 - 497.6 mls. On bases of results, it could be concluded that the Ahwari sheep need to be crossbred with other sheep breeds, which has good productive characteristics to improve its milk yield and quality.
