Yemeni Agricultural Commodities Trade with the Saudi Markets and The Effective Factors

Summary

The study results confirmed a very important facts that the high proportion of most agricultural commodities exports of go to Saudi markets, they were in 2005 about 75% of the total exports of onions and 86% of bananas and 64% of grapes and 87% of mangoes 53% of coffee and 46 % Of tomatoes. That puts great responsibilities for interest in this market. Study found that Yemeni agricultural commodities share market is very low and unstable in the Saudi markets, where the share of onions 8.2% of the import`s quantity, and 16.1% of the value as a average for the period of study, and tomatoes at 1.7% and 4.5% of the quantity and value respectively. For the carrot 10% and 13.1% of the quantity and value, as for bananas some 14.9% and 15.7% market share, for the quantity and value, as well as for the Mango approximately 9.7% and 15.7% for the quantity and value respectively, and grapes about 4.8% and 6.1% and coffee 5% and 12.5% and finally honey 2.6% and 24.5% share of quantity and value of three last goods respectively. The study emphasizes the need for attention to agriculture infrastructure of Yemen and strengthens the role and effectiveness of an agricultural extension and marketing extension to improve product quality and increase the competitive capabilities of agricultural goods in conformity with the standard specifications required in the target markets and Saudi Arabia market in particular. For mutual benefits of this commercial activity is necessary to facilitate understanding and the standardization of specifications and standards will greatly help to overcome some difficulties that sometimes arise.
