The study focussed on the role of yemeni wholesale markets involved in marketing agricultural products specially fruits and vegetables . It investigated mechanisms by which movement of these products were carried out from farmers to wholesalers and then to retailers. Main wholesale markets in Sana'a, Aden , Hadramout, Taiz and Hudeidah were visited and information required was gathered using a questionnaire . Activities , taking place in studied markets, allowing the flow of agricultural products to consumers have also been researched . Results of the study confirm that wholesale markets were first established by the government , but now ran by investors who allow farmers and wholesale traders to display and sell their products for specific fee per vehicle entering into market. Markets of different sizes found in most provinces in Yemen , are alike in terms of activities, but different in produce quantities being handled. Commissioned marchants found in wholesale markets help farmers to display their products or sell it on their behalf.
